I’m writing this post to highlight and provide answers to some of the frustrations that candidates face when dealing with recruiters.
Finding a new job can be an exciting, inspirational and career defining time for you, no matter which stage of life you find yourself at.
If it’s your first job in industry, the possibilities of where you could be once you get that elusive first role are endless. Nobody has anything handed to them and you’ll have to continue fighting for the rest of your career, but that doesn’t mean it has to be stressful!
If you have established yourself already, then you may find opportunities presenting themselves that didn’t factor into your early career planning. Conversely, you may find there are alternate paths to the goals you have set for yourself, share your passion with others, you may be surprised at the doors it will open.
Like any profession there are good recruiters and bad ones, I think it would be fair to say that both are sometimes guilty of these:
“The recruiter won’t call me back” – This is easily remedied, rather than spreading yourself too thin by dealing with 6+ recruiters when looking for your next role, consider having a smaller group of recruiters that you have worked with before, or spoken with extensively so that you know you can trust them and their insight. Ultimately, if you have a relationship with a person they will be more likely to return your call. Don’t be scared to dig deep on your first call with a recruiter and ask them hard questions, likewise ask them why they didn’t call back- if they obfuscate, it should be the end of the conversation.
One of our consultants will be available until 8pm, 6 days a week to answer your call or to return it. We realise it can be difficult to talk during working hours, so feel free to let us know if you would prefer an evening call.
“I applied for a job and didn’t hear anything back” - This is probably the most common complaint against recruiters throughout all industries. It was in fact one of the reasons I had looked at a career in recruitment initially. The level of service I received made me feel that I could do a better job if I was in the recruiters’ place. It may not be quite as simple as that (time constraints do apply) but this is one area where Tashida Pharmaceutical is happy to stick our head above the parapet. We will update all of our candidates in ‘process’ every week to let you know the status of your application.
